Godly Sorrow Leads to Repentance

2 Corinthians 7:10
For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.

Godly sorrow leads to repentance. Without the reality of it, we do not (yet) understand/agree with the fact that we have sinned/broken God's law/disobeyed God/offended God and the seriousness of that. We are proud, rebellious, blasphemous and blind to our fate, even blind to many sins we keep deep within our hearts. And we do not truly believe many things that God has spoken about sin (e.g. Romans 6:23) and the choice we are called to make concerning how we choose to live our lives. We do not truly love God if there is still a desire in us to disobey Him and get away with it somehow (we imagine). If we love God, we will obey Him (John 14:15), not only desire to do so. We will do it. We will humble ourselves and recognize our faults before Him, and ask Him to forgive us our sins that we have committed in the past. We will choose to have nothing to do with those sins anymore (2 Timothy 2:19) and will strive to keep ourselves from all sin from that moment on. We will recognize our weaknesses and ask God for the strength to come out of our lost ways of sin. We will ask Him to SAVE us! If we hunger and thirst for righteousness (Matthew 5:6), we shall be filled. That is God's solid promise. But if we hunger and thirst for sin, for following our own ways rather than God's ways, and we do not care to know God's word about all aspects of our lives, we must admit also that we truly do not love Him. If we love God and want to walk in his ways, we will desire to have the light of his word to guide us in every way and to be transformed into the person we truly want to be, the person who lives for God and who is pleasing to God: the person Jesus can count on as his disciple to be a light in the world (Matthew 5:14), one He can call his friend (John 15:14). We will seek God's guidance in prayer about every aspect of our lives and ask Him for all the strength we need to go and sin no more (John 8:11), and walk in holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our life (Luke 1:75).

Titus 2:11-15
11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people, 12 instructing us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly desires, and to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age; 13 looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ; 14 who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify for himself a people for his own possession, zealous for good works. 15 Say these things and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one despise you.
